I remember when my daughter was born. Visions of her and I dressed in pinks and purples sitting in her lacy pink room playing dolls danced threw my head. A year later my son was born ;My husbands vision of sports and trucks revved around like mad men threw his manly mind.

Those dreams were simply that dreams. Little did I know there are lessons for parents to learn about children's toys and who are children will be.

Baby Toy

My daughter plays with dolls. She plays with clay and gets her hands dirty. She plays in the dirt, climbs trees and races her trucks around .,he plays kick ball , base ball and can run as fast as any boy.

His Toy, Her Toy

My son plays with trucks and builds with blocks, he colors and plays ps2 and he plays house with my girls rocking babies and feeding them.

There was a time my husband would bark to my son "Put down that doll!" until we came to the realization that play is really a child's preparation for real life. Our daughter was learning sportsmanship and how to be a team player from all the sports she played. My son was learning compassion and parenting skills from those dolls. It's amazing to me to watch my son now with his baby brother...I can see the compassion he has learned threw us and his play and I know some day he will be a good father I see my daughter line up her brothers and sister for a game of kick ball. And I see how she has learned to take the lead and take charge. I know some day in what ever she put her mind to see will be a success.

My message to parents is not to limit their child. Toys and sports are learning tools for life and they shouldn't carry a gender.

By the way...my daughter and I play but its not dolls....many days you can find us all at the beach...covered in muddy sand driving our big Tonka's(TM) .

Although they have been around for many generations of kids, they became very popular in the first half of the nineteenth century. Classic riding toys include the pedal car and the bicycle. For children too young for a bicycle, wagons and tricycles provided plenty of entertainment. Besides being pure fun, ride on toys provide a way for children to get around the neighborhood and feel grown-up. Toy Model Trains For Kids Or Men?

As I write this I find myself 55 years of age so that puts me in a unique group of people who actually watched black and white TV! I remember my childhood years as a boy, toys were simple and the best toys modeled trains, trucks, cars, boats and guns. We didn't have things like Thomas the Train but we did have toy model trains. We even had a Lionel scale model electric train which fascinated me. Something about these toys that attract boys and men like magnets, could it be an overwhelming desire to control these big monsters?

If those manufacturers of toy model trains ever figured out exactly what drives boys and men to want to play with scale model trains, I imagine they could become very wealthy! The ability to create lifelike reproductions of toy model trains just has to have something to do with the natural attraction, the more real a locomotive looks and works, the more attractive it seems. Maybe we just gaze in wonder at these scale model trains as smoke pours out of the smoke stack, the headlight shines on the track and electricity pours through the tracks with the magical hot smelling transformer. I remember those smells from the old Lionel train locomotive, the smell of the smoke pellets , the heaviness of the locomotive and that combination of hot transformer and Christmas tree needles. Although at the time, to me, it was a toy model train when in reality it wasn't a toy at all but a complex model train that would be worth a nice pile of cash today!

Kids started playing with little toy trains long before I did and often were made of wood with wooden wheels, some were small and some big toy trains were large enough to sit on. Today life like model trains are made of plastic for little children to push around and make train noises. But boys grow up and so do their trains, maybe that youthful imagination is somehow restored when grown men look at model train layouts, detailed engines and all the model train accessories one can absorb. As toy trains evolve into scale modeled electric trains everything gets harder and stronger. Train engines weight more, track is more realistic and heavier. The locomotives have very strong engines capable of pulling many cares and a good quality scale model locomotive should be made of metal and heavy enough to get good contact with the track.

Toy Model Trains For Kids Or Men?

Some of the earliest working models of scaled train locomotives were actually powered by steam engines, this was before electricity was available and definitely for big boys, I mean men! You can still see these engines and trains operate and if you ever get a chance to see the steam locomotive in action it will be the most lifelike experience you'll ever have when watching a model train. The real steam filling the layout and the sound of the wheels draws one back in time.

I can't imagine that many men have their childhood dreams fulfilled and are train engineers in real life and I'm sure their job loses it's wonder at some point. However, I've heard that these same train engineers will at some point in their life began to start their scale modeling train hobby again. The ones that do have some real first hand knowledge for creating an awesome track layout with realistic mode train scenery. I guess you could say they are going back to their roots!

A baby crib, some toys, a place to put all the baby's clothes, shelves to convenient grab lotions, creams, diaper wipes, diapers, etc. off near the changing table is a MUST.

You'll also need to think about getting a baby chair too; baby chair for the house (at the right height for the dining table) and also a baby chair for the car (for traveling). Some baby chairs can be adjusted to fit the adult dining chair AND fit into the car at the same time. They are a little bit more expensive than the conventional baby chairs, but the multi-function is extremely convenient PLUS it's downright comfortable for your new baby.

If you've had previous babies before, you probably don't need too many new baby clothes. New babies outgrow their clothes terribly fast and it'd be a waste of money to splurge on new clothes. You can get hand-me-downs from nieces and nephews too, if you want. What you should probably get are blankets, sweaters, coats, and clothes for going out. At home, your new baby's not going to mind old clothes. In fact, it's a fact that your new baby is probably going to like wearing the old clothes better than the new clothes. Don't forget the feeding utensils like baby bowls, breast pump (if you're planning to pump breast milk for your new baby at work), baby bottles, cloth nappies, diapers, baby wipes, lotions, shampoo, bath gels, towels, baby blankets, baby bedding, bibs, stroller, etc.

Is there such a thing as a baby name that isn't cute? Unfortunately there is. I don't know who picks them, but there are some names that just don't seem to jump to mind when you associate them with the name "baby".

I look for a lot in a baby name. It can not rhyme with something that could be used for ridicule. It should not be too long or two short, and relatively easy to spell. And last but not least, it needs to be cute!

The KidKraft sets are full of playable elements and will occupy kids for hours.

Of course, there are more playsets, particularly those within particular themes from television and movies, but these two options are wonderful to allow kids the option to let their imaginations flow without a preconceived storyline.

Recently, we can often hear both from pediatricians and psychologists about benefits of listening to music for babies. Of course, it is not surprising at all, as already our grannies sang songs to babies, to calm them down. Are there any medical researches on this subject?

THE ANCIENTS were the first who noticed a beneficial effect of music both on soul and body. They treated neural-mental illnesses with music, and tried to use it as anaesthetic in Middle Ages... But all these experiments were carried out with adults.

Music Therapy for Baby

In the beginning of 20th century scientists already could see that it was curative for babies to listen to classical music and lullabies, that music not only develops children, but also makes them healthier.
Scientists decided to find scientific grounds of music therapy. And the first patients, who received treatment with music, were prematurely born babies.

What the researches showed

AS a rule, if a baby suffered from lack of oxygen during his prenatal development, no matter whether he is premature or not, his activity of cell ferments is lowered. After listening to classical music, activity of babies' cell ferments rose. A cytochemical analysis showed this. They also took babies' blood pressure, pulse, rhythm of breathing. And they always observed a classical reaction of adaptation: organism adjusted itself to environment and felt better.

Well, may be, children react this way to any sound irritant - alarm-clock ticking, conversation? May be, harmony and melody have nothing to do with it?

Researchers switched on a metronome for babies, which beat out a slow rhythm at a calm music pace. Babies behaved rather well: calmed down and fell asleep. But cytochemical analysis registered objectively: on the background of metronome working, an oppression of ferments took place in cells.

By the way, this is a proof of the fact that rock music with pronounced pulsatile rhythm is harmful for small babies.

When parents were going to take away their babies from hospital, doctors recommended them to continue carrying out music therapy procedures at home, along with massage, special gymnastics and exercises in water. Parents treated such advices in different ways, some of them switched on music for their babies, some of them did not.

But when a year later all these babies passed a checkup, interesting facts were discovered. Babies, who were constantly listening to classical music, coped better with neurologic defects, than the ones, whose parents did not believe in a healing power of music therapy. This way a reliable statistics appeared.

Which music should babies listen to?

EXCITABLE, fidget children should listen to melodies at a slow pace - "adagio", "andante". As a rule, second parts of classical sonatas and instrumental concerts have such pace. German scientists worked out main scientific literature on this subject, and German and Viennese classical music prevailed in their programs: Mozart, Schubert, Haydn... Later they added Vivaldi and Tchaikovski...

For example, this can be a second part of a "Short nocturnal serenade" by Mozart, "Winter" from "Seasons" by Vivaldi, a duet of Lisa and Polina from Tchaikovski's opera "Queen of spades", lullabies.

A melody with words influences babies stronger, than a melody without words. And live singing is stronger, than instrumental performance recorded on CD. A language of singing does not matter, new-born babies can gladly listen to, for example, a lullaby by Brahms or Christmas motets in German language.

And babies, suffering from syndrome of distress, who nurse badly and sometimes even breathe spasmodically, should listen to musical compositions at "allegro" and "allegro moderato" pace by Mozart, Schubert, Haydn... For example: waltzes from Tchaikovski's ballets "On troika" from his "Seasons", "Spring" from Vivaldi's "Seasons", and also martial music.

Music therapy procedures are also of benefit for healthy, normally developing children. They also should be calmed down or, on the contrary, emboldened sometimes. This can be done with the help of relaxing or energetic music.
On no account, put on ear-phones on your baby. Our ears are adjusted to diffused sound by nature. Immature brain can receive an acoustic trauma because of directed sound.

Music therapy is contra-indicated to:

Babies with predisposition to fits.

Babies in a serious condition, which is accompanied by organism intoxication.

Babies suffering from otitis.

Babies, whose intracranial pressure increases sharply.

Rest on a cellular level

NOW parents have large selection of remedies - they can buy CD-discs with classical music in traditional performance. Or discs with classical music, arranged especially for babies. This music is accompanied by hand bells. Some may like such arrangement, other may not. You should see yourself your baby's reaction.

You can also buy CD-records of classical music on the background of sounds of nature - rote, sound of rain, murmur of the forest...
Listen to music together with your baby and relax, as restless babies' mothers just need a good rest, on a cellular level.
